Ecuador’s minister of Finance visited IMF’s HQ in Washington, DC today (Wednesday Dec. 14, 2022) and met the Managing Director, Kristalina Georgieva, to celebrate Ecuador’s completion of the Extended Fund Facility-supported program – the first completion in two decades.
The program has helped Ecuador mitigate the socioeconomic effects of the pandemic and other external shocks, maintain macroeconomic stability.
“I'm pleased to share very good news for Ecuador. Today, our Executive Board approved the final review of Ecuador's fund supported program. The first completion of an IMF program in two decades and a remarkable achievement at a particularly challenging time. It helps build the foundation of a more resilient economy and further protecting the most vulnerable people. I would like to congratulate the Ecuadorian authorities for their relentless work to achieve the success of the program. We will continue to work closely so we can build on this success in the future,” said Georgieva.
